Terms of service

Effective 27 October 2026

Who we are

Shard Connector for Obsidian (“the service”) is run by Digital Vibes (David Mohl), Tokyo, Japan (“we”). These terms are the agreement between you and us. By signing in or subscribing, you accept them.

The service

The service runs a private MCP server for your account. It connects to one of your vaults through Obsidian Sync and lets the AI clients you connect, such as Claude or ChatGPT, search, read, create, edit and trash notes in it. Their changes sync to your devices through Obsidian Sync.

You need your own Obsidian account with an active Obsidian Sync subscription, which Obsidian bills separately. If your Obsidian Sync subscription ends, the service can’t reach your vault. Not every vault can be connected yet; the connect page tells you when yours can’t.

Your account

You sign in with a Google account, and your account here is tied to it. You must be old enough to enter a binding contract where you live. Keep your Google account secure: anyone who can sign in to it can reach your space and your vault.

You’re responsible for what happens through your account, including what the AI clients you connect do in your vault. An AI client acting on your requests can change or trash notes, and those changes sync to every device. Obsidian Sync’s version history is your backup.

Acceptable use

Don’t:

  • break the law with the service, or use it to store or share content you have no right to;
  • try to reach another user’s space, vault or account;
  • probe, attack, overload or work around the limits of the service or the systems it runs on;
  • create extra accounts to get another free trial, or resell or share access to your space;
  • use the service in a way that breaks Obsidian’s terms.

If you do, we may suspend or close your account.

Subscription and billing

The service costs $2.99 a month, tax included. Stripe handles payment; we never see your full card details.

  • Free trial. Your first subscription on a Google account starts with a 3-day free trial. Checkout asks for a card. If you don’t cancel before the trial ends, the first month is charged then. An account that already had a trial or a subscription doesn’t get another one.
  • Renewal. The subscription renews every month, and each month is charged in advance, until you cancel.
  • Cancelling. Cancel any time with Manage billing on the dashboard. You keep access until the end of your trial or the month you paid for, and you aren’t charged again.
  • Failed payments. If a payment fails, Stripe retries it. If every retry fails, the subscription ends.
  • Price changes. We tell you by email at least 30 days before a new price applies. It applies from your next renewal after that, and you can cancel before then.

When your subscription ends

Your space is paused and your AI clients can no longer reach your vault. We keep your space, its snapshot and your stored credentials for 14 days. Subscribe again within those 14 days and your space comes back as it was, without connecting Obsidian again. After 14 days we delete them.

Deleting your space doesn’t cancel your subscription. Cancel it with Manage billing.

Refunds

Payments aren’t refunded, including for part of a month, except where the law requires it. If we charged you by mistake, for example twice for the same month, we refund the extra charge in full. Write to us at obsidian-mcp@d.pn.

Your data

Your notes are yours. You let us process them only as far as running the service needs: to download your vault from Obsidian Sync, keep it on your server and in its encrypted snapshot, and pass notes to and from the AI clients you connect. The privacy policy says what we store, where, and for how long.

Other services

The service depends on Obsidian Sync for your vault, Stripe for payments, Google for sign-in and Google Cloud for hosting your space, and Cloudflare for this site and the relay. Notes your AI client reads go to that client’s provider, such as Anthropic or OpenAI. Each of these has its own terms, which apply to your use of it. We aren’t responsible for their outages or for what they do with what you send them.

Not affiliated with Obsidian

The service isn’t made, endorsed or supported by Obsidian. Obsidian and Obsidian Sync are trademarks of their owner. Ask us, not Obsidian, for help with the service.

Availability

We work to keep the service running, but we don’t promise any uptime and there’s no service level agreement. It can be down for maintenance, because of an outage at one of the services above, or because Obsidian changed how Obsidian Sync works. We may change, add or remove features.

Ending the agreement

You can stop any time: cancel your subscription with Manage billing and delete your space on the dashboard. Deleting your space deletes your server, its snapshots and your stored Obsidian credentials. The Obsidian access token we created stays valid until you revoke it in your Obsidian account.

We may suspend or close your account if you break these terms. If we shut the service down, we tell you by email at least 30 days ahead and refund any month you paid for but can’t use. When your account closes, your space and stored credentials are deleted as described above.

Disclaimer

The service is provided as is and as available. As far as the law allows, we make no promise that it will be uninterrupted, free of errors, or fit for a particular purpose, or that it will never lose or change data.

Limitation of liability

As far as the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits or lost data, and our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that can’t be limited by law, including liability for our intent or gross negligence, or your rights as a consumer under the Consumer Contract Act of Japan.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Japan. The Tokyo District Court has exclusive jurisdiction in the first instance over any dispute about them or the service.

Changes to these terms

When these terms change, the date at the top changes with it. We tell you about a change that matters by email at least 30 days before it applies. If you keep using the service after that, the new terms apply; if you don’t accept them, cancel before then.
